U.S. Policy Towards China in the Age of Trump

Trump has long promoted the narrative that China is cheating the United States on many fronts and must be dealt with assertively. He has proposed imposing tariffs on Chinese goods and initially opposed supporting the "One China" policy unless Beijing was willing to make concessions on issues such as trade and North Korea. Dr. Patricia Kim, of Princeton University, will assess whether such measures are likely to be effective by drawing on lessons from the contemporary history of U.S.-China relations.
